As for paying, I never have. I just asked members who were around for a long time and were level headed and knew their stuff if they would be interested in helping. Most people jump at it.

Yeah, offering a mod position usually gets takers! However its hiring the right one you need to worry about. Hiring a moderator that doesn't do anything is just as useful as not having one!
