Articles as Forum Content
Is it good if I will put a lot of articles from other sites in my new forum? I haven't uploaded the forum but I'm already thinking of things to make it interesting. Any ideas on how to make a forum content, main topic of the forum is math in general.

As for articles, I put a fair bit on my forum from Gamespot because it allows users to discuss major issues about games rather than me or another person rewrite the articles and possibly post wrong information. Since the topic is somewhat uncommon, I'd suggest you post some articles to get the forum running. |

Thanks for the reply mate. Putting articles from other sites is what I am thinking already but will it do good on my forum? What I am thinking is if I will put the articles and then link them to the original post, then my members might not stay in my forum and just go to the sites that I have linked the articles.
Anyway, I should link the articles for credit to the author and website. |

On thing you could do, is be sure to have the links open in another window. That way, if the reader does get so interested in the site you send them to that they forget about where they started, when they close the page, your site will still be there.
You definitely want to give the author credit for their work. Some authors will only allow links back to the original site, but others will allow you to post the article on your site as long as you include the authors information at the end of the article. |

When in doubt just ask the author. Many people are willing to help out people as long as they are honest. Another way around that would be to link to a site such as wikipedia's articles. While the information is there the forum and sense of community is not. One of the strongest draws for joiing a forum is having people you can interact with and ask questions of. Not just some plcae you can find information. Adding articles sounds like a great idea and will help your forum have something to discuss when it opens.

Thanks a lot for those ideas, I have taken note of it and look for good math articles that would help in my forum.
The goal of putting articles in my forum is to make it more interesting to visit. I think we know what a very new forum looks like and its quite boring to go there right? When there are many conversations going on then I would stop putting the articles. Just as purplefdu said, active interactions is one of the best points of a forum. Even if its a good math article it will not be understood if there is no explanation. And I'm imagining members will try to solve a math problem through the forum. |
