Need help spacing categories - Forums Help - vBulletin, IPB, phpBB, SMF skins and community

Hello, on your forum home page you have your categories separated by a gray bar. I was wondering how this is accomplished. I would like to do something similar on my own forum, right now everything on my forum homepage is grouped all together. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thank you.
