Post Count to view attachments?

I notice that you have included a feature to only allow users with a certain post count to view attachments, and obviously to enable them to download files.
However, I feel that this encourages people to post useless comments (ie SPAM!) just to get the post-count up..
I realise it is helpful to encourage people to use the forums, but surely it is better to have a few relevant and sensible posts, than hundreds of posts along the lines of "Hi, This is just spam to 'up' my postcount!"

P.S. 1 down, 9 to go!

I do the same thing on my website. I require a certain amount of posts to see / use other features of the site. I look at it as a service charge. If you have something you want they will post, and not spam the boards. Thats what the mods are there for. To get rid of the spam. A way to stop the spam if mods are not around is to turn off new members being able to start a new thread. Which forces them to look around and reply to current threads for information. ( Which is what I have on my site. )

If 10 posts is really a bother to someone they should offer to pay a subscription fee. Also making a required amount of posts before certain areas of a site are open to them is also a way to build a community, so I think its a great idea. Its been very helpful to my site thus far with very little complaints.

I know personally on my site when someone spams the site to get the post count up to me its a lack of respect to myself and everyone else associated with the site. They just want what they want. All the effort put into the site goes unnoticed so making a required post is a way of getting a thanks from the members. They are not taking the time out to make quality posts and to lead to further discussion on the site. Which in turn would help everyone out.

I totally agree with you Kevin. And yes Bladerunner, you need at least 10 posts inorder to reply to any of the Free Stuff section threads. I've added this inorder to avoid people who spam the downloads area with the "Thank You" posts or with copied and pasted posts and which are totally usless posts to other forum members and visitors.
