Few steps to control spam on vBulletin
Hello everybody
![]() Spam is one of the major problems that face any forum, and it's really a pain for any forum admin or moderator to follow each post and see if it contains spam or not. And we here at Forums Help faced this problem and it was a major threat, as it will probably affect our forum look especially infront new members and visitors. So we kept on trying many things to stop this spam flow and almost failed everytime from preventing spammers. But finally we reached a good solution by combining few plugins that helped us to prevent more than 90% of the spamming. Here are the steps that we did: 1- First thing, we required email verification during registration process. 2- We installed a very useful plugin that is named "Prevent Spam Posts", you can find this addon here: Prevent Spam Posts - vBulletin.org Forum This will allow you to automatically scan new posts from new members for common spam keywords. If any are found, the post/thread will be sent to the moderation queue to prevent their spam from having any affect. If your filter is very strict, and a regular user happens to trigger it, no harm is done because your moderators can just approve the post. 3- Another addon that we used is "Prevent Doubleposts", This Modification prevents doubleposts by merging post together, if the last poster of a thread tries to post again. 4- Also used a plugin named " Multiple account login detector (AE Detector) ", this plugin detects users who have multiple accounts. You can find this plugin here: Multiple account login detector (AE Detector) - vBulletin.org Forum I decided to reveal these steps inorder to help you to prevent spam as well and I hope that you find it useful ![]()

I have been working on reducing spam on my forums for some time, and I seem to have found a method of virtually eliminating spam from vBulletin forums... I wrote a tutorial on explaining how to do this.
[How To] Reduce spam on your forum Its been working for me and I have cut spam down to nearly -ZERO- on my forums. |

If you haven't tried NoSpam! - an alternative to CAPTCHA images - vBulletin.org Forum
Then you need to. It does require some setup (making questions specific to your forum that a member would know), but it's been awesome since I installed it. |
