Being Paid To Sticky A Thread

On one of my forums, I have an advertising forum, where anyone can advertise they're websites, or websites of a good friend of theirs. Well recently I got an offer to be paid $5 a week to sticky one of their threads. I am not sure on what to do with this, because it is unfair to the other advertised forums. What would you do?

I think its fair. Do you have rules against bumping posts? If not then the users could bump their posts instead of stickying their post. However, if you start getting alot of takers, then it will fill up your first page with all stickies then thats a problem....

I agree that it will become a problem if people cotton onto this and lots of people start asking you to do this. It might even become an issue of discrimination.

For the time being I would say that it is fine, but you might have to review this in the near future.

I think what I will do is offer text links in the footer. I don't really think it fits the unwritten rules of the advertising forum.

As long as you have a certain number of stickies for those sections of your forum, I don't see a problem. As someone already pointed out ,the other members can bump their thread once or twice weekly as you choose. This will only mean that members will take a closer look at the stickies on your forum without having to use much space for additional advertisements.

Heck, it's a way of making money to pay for hosting costs. I think you should do it. It's an easy $20 a month.

In my opinion, it's dirty money. I don't like giving unfair advantages to others in a forum that is for equal oppurtunities of getting their site out there.

I wouldn't term it dirty money so much, because that makes it sound like really shady practises. I don't think it's that bad, but it is unfair. But my big problem is what happens down the road when others find out and either want in, or what these guys gone.
