Helping With One User Not Making All the Threads

I'm just wondering, when you open up a forum, how would you make it so you're not the only one making all the thread topics? So you're not the "only one on the site"?

The only thing I've done which is totally against "forum ettiqute" (Yeah I know I spelled that wrong...) is that I made multiple usernames under different emails.

Does anyone have any ideas that would help with this? It's happened to me on all my forums unfortunately.

Well, when you open a forum, either you have people to invite to use it, or you don't.

If you don't, you're kinda suffering tough luck. Either you make multiple usernames yourself, you might try a posting bot, or you work really hard to find people to post content. There aren't many options.

How do you get a posting bot, but not have them go crazy and post a bunch of spam stuff?

Depending on the forum software you use, just look around on websites that offer mods and such. See if you can find one that will post things based on topics in the forums. There is at least one for vbulletin on vbulletin.org. I've never tried it though. I really don't know much else.

Don't try to make your forum huge and cater to everyone. Choose a topic and stick to it. That way you'll get members that are of similar mindset that want to post about a specific topic.

I'm assuming you're running VB since you posted this in the vb section.

Have you poked around vbulletin.org to find the bot I was referring to?

Recruit your friends to post. Recruit your sort of friends to post. Recruit anyone you know to post.

As for making a few users and posting, while its not a great thing to do, if need be, you do what you have to to make your forum seems busy.

Get a few close buddies who you know will be active to join, and get them to invite some people etc. Then start building your link, and other people will now find your site more attractive.
