How much is too much? - Page 2 - Forums Help - vBulletin, IPB, phpBB, SMF skins and community

I have been known to leave a forum because it had too many categories. I felt that I was just wasting too much time trying to find the forum that I was looking for, and it really wasn't worth it just to chat.

Subforums are really so much easier to managed, under an umbrella of a more general forum.

But even then, having too many of them (depending on what the subject is, how large your member base is, how many topics you have and so on) it can be a large hassle for your community and staff to manage your site and keep things under control really.
