I'm hardly a go to guy for vBulletin advice, but I feel comfortable enough with your question to offer a reply.
Go to the Admincp>usergroups>usergroup manager
Select the usergroup that you want to customize and click "edit usergroup (id:xx)">Go
Go down to Username HTML Markup
In those two (2) boxes to the right, enter the HTML commands for the font, font size, bold, italic, etc. You can find a lot of them by googling HTML colors or fonts. Here's what I did for one of my usergroups
Username HTML Markup
(Specify an opening and closing HTML tag with which to display the names of users in this group. This applies to names that appear on Logged-in Users, Who's Online, Users Browsing Forum, Users Browsing Thread, Posts, Member List etc.)
<strong><FONT COLOR="#FF0000"> [Left Box]
</FONT COLOR="#FF0000"></strong> [Right Box]
You'll note that the "/" preceding the commands in the right box, turns off the selected command.

I'm sure there are a lot of folks here that will give you a more concise answer than mine, but it should get you started. Good luck. . . got to get back to trying to get my vBadvanced CMPS configured correctly after screwing it up! I'll be posting a question on that later, I'm sure!
