How many moderators do you need for your forum?

Hello
I have a question that I want to share with you, this question is how many moderators do you need for your forum?
I know that this depends on the forum size and the number of members, so let's make an assumption, that the forum we are talking about has 1000 members and it's not offering any extra services, and it's members are grwoing by 50 new users per month.

That's a good question. I'd say 1 mod for every 200 members

You can not compare numbers of mods to numbers of members
You may have a good team of few good expert mods, much better that having 10s of non expert team
I mean "good team of mods are making a good forum name in the net"

I agree but there is always a minimum number of mods when it comes to a large number of users.

I would have to agree with ti20. 1 mod for every 200 or 1 for every 250. 5 seems right for 1000 users.

As I've found from my own experience, the number of people registered isn't necessarily a true reflection of a forum's activity level. I would suggest assessing the situation on an ongoing basis. It's better to add staff gradually as the forum grows than to recruit too many at the outset. Having a full complement of staff can also give other members the impression there are no vacancies to aspire to.

I'd have to agree with Trust as well, a small team of experienced staff is the best way to start - hopefully they in turn will teach others as the site progresses.
