Having a full complement of staff can also give other members the impression there are no vacancies to aspire to.

I'd have to agree with Trust as well, a small team of experienced staff is the best way to start - hopefully they in turn will teach others as the site progresses.
I do agree on adding staff gradually, but don't you have in mind a minimum number of moderators that should be around?

At the moment, none. Due mainly to the fact that I only have 20 members and counting.

being that my forum is state and topic specific i know each one of the mods personally as well as many of the registered users.

2 admins
4 super mods
~3700 users

we all have certain things we do though besides the editing, merging, deleting posts. which include adding events, adding to the link directory, writing reviews on various topics.

Honestly I been running forums for over 6 years. It realy depends on the type of forum you run and what you expect and can get out of your mods plus filling the needs of your members.

I have like 50 members but I got 3 admins, and 6 supers.

I cant expect the mod to stay on site 24/7 people do have lives and stuff does happen. I want to make sure that any question that is put forth gets answered in a timly manner by one of my mods. If not more than one. I say the more heads the better.

The whole idea for me is to keep my members happy. And fill their needs.

BTW thanx for having me aboard this being my first post.
