User of the Month and Apparent statistics.

I have noticed over my experience in running forums that users always want two things.

-Attention
-More attention

Making small modifications to fit their needs might really boost your forum activity. Monthly, have a User Of The Month usergroup, the user who gets it will have a different color then the normal registered users. And when a user gets User Of The Month take out the time to make a new thread in the announcement section since it's a special section in the forum. Believe it or not, alot of users will be motivated to post more and be more active.

Having something as the CYB Forum Stats on the front page >LINK< can seriously help you get more threads and replies. Users simply want to see their names everywhere to feel special and get attention, so what do you do? You simply give them attention.

That's a real good idea Stashhh, thanks for sharing it. I totally agree with you, users need a lot of attention and they always need to see new stuff or features added to the forum.

We used to have Member of the Day, and then went to Member of the Week, for that reason. Attention. We have found that Member of the Week allows the other members to ask more questions, and allows time for the MOTW to answer them. We also have a graphic that says they are MOTW that we put in their sig area.

Attention is great.

The first forum I ever joined had a Member of the Day hack. It just showed a random member, I never was on it though . My friends do a Member Spotlight. There is nominations from other members, then voting, then they answer a survey and send a pic, and get a spotlight.
