Warning/Infraction System

Do you use a Warning or Infraction system? I used to, but it didn't really do much for us. We ended up just doing it by person. We understand accidents, but if it is constant, we just temp ban.

I don't know many that use it lately, but I have seen it in the past. Most of the time I think people just ignore it, and I am for the rule of public talk, if you break a rule on the boards, its just the same as in school, get your name wrote on the chalkboard with a little check mark to your name so everyone can see.

My first forum used the warning system, and it wasn't really automated. The warnings would last for a month, and each day they had to manually unwarn each warning.

I would hate to have to go through everday to remove warnings. It is amazing how much simpler things were just a few years ago. What we think of simple now was hard back then (archiving posts one by one anyone?)

I don't use any kind at all. I have it in the rules that if you screw up that you will know the next time you try to login! As personal philosophy, I usually use a 3 strike rule, but there are some occasions where I have to invoke a 1 strike rule!!

We've used a manual warning system for a long time. The warnings add up, resulting in longer and longer bans. Ultimately, too many infractions and the member is permanently banned.

You have to be careful also, because the can be false reports and people can just start complaining and blaming others for things they didn't do. I have always believed in personally contacting the member in question, and be fair but firm.
