I must be the minority here, but I accept it as a part of life on the Internet. Yes I get annoyed when I can't read the letters, or can't tell if it is upper or lower case, but for the most part I recognize the necessity of it. The way I see it, I can gripe about the images or I can gripe about the spammers. I hate spammers worse than I hate captcha.

It is like complaining about high security in the airport. No I don't like taking off my shoes, my belt and all my jewelry, but I recognize that it is a necessary to protect us all from terrorists on the airplanes.

I completely see the neccessity of it also. I do not want to be visiting a forum that is inundated with horrible, offensive, sexual spam. If going through a brief delay is what it takes to stop that then I will put up with the delay thanks!

Its always there for a good reason. Most of the times I have seen the harder ones to read, something was not done proper when setting it up, I know a few people that make their own, but that seems like a really hard task to do.

I don't know I find alot of Vbulletin ones incredibly hard to read. And not all of them give you the option of trying a different image. I've passed joiing a couple forums for just that reason. I have perfect 20/20 vision but I refuse to go blind trying to figure out the 6 characters hidden in the squiggles and multicolored pile on my LCD screen. I could be doing plenty o other things than spending a half hour trying to signup.

The forum will be for e private organization, some of you may have heard of them:The Loyal Order of the Moose. As such it will be part of our website, and not subject to being randomly joined. We have under a hundred members, and oly a dozen or so new members a year so registering them manually would only require an empty day or so to do. Kind of like assigning employee logins. But as many of them have failing eyesight and captchas aren't exactly made in large font sizes it will be hard for them to register themselves without help. For a regular site I wouldn't think twice, but senior citizens are not the average internet surfng public.

I don't like Captcha either but I see it as a necessary tool when hosting a website, forum or blog. It keeps spam away from the site and protects it. One thing I hate most about Captcha is when it keeps giving 'invalid', 'incorrect' or 'wrong input' when the letters or numbers entered were correct.

If the captcha is readable, then I don't mind it much.

My problem is with the ones which are illegible, which seems to be quite a few of them sadly

I hate having to strain my eyes to attempt to read scribbles.

The idea is good, but it isn't used properly nearly enough.

I put up with Captcha because I don't like spam in forums, however, I hate it when I have to try 3 times because I can't read the letters. Or they use O's and 0, 1 and I. I always get those wrong!
