Do you think we'll ever see a free version of Vbulletin? - Forums Help - vBulletin, IPB, phpBB, SMF skins and community

With how popular and successful Vbulletin has proven to be, do you think we'll ever see a free version available?

I certainly would hope so, since it's too damn expensive to buy a license.

And then you have to pay for hosting, and advertising, it all adds up!

So, what do you think?

Honestly no. If they had problems selling their product they might bring out a stripped down version as a teaser, and intro into the world of VBulletin. But they can make their money without needing to do so, so I don't expect they ever will.

I agree with Bananas. As much as I would love to see a free version, it's not likely. The best we can hope for is a trial version. Unless the unlikely situation that they drop the project for a newer one.

As well, I am inclined to agree with the points brought up by Bananas and Code Junkie.

A free version would have been released years ago, if VB had any intention of making one. The software sells so well, they could probably raise the price by double and still see people buying it.

Its really quite sad to see such a popular forum software without a free version or even a trial. I'm really not big on buying something I can't try out for a week or so and test to its limits.
