Leased or owned vbulletin license .. which works best for you?

VB can be purchased in 2 ways: an owned license or a leased one .. Which did you chose? What motivates your choice? Are you now pleased with this?

I have known one that purchased a license from the original owner, who never told the new owner it was really a leased one, and then all went crazy when trying to find out how to renew it. Another I know does the 1 time a year renewal and has no issues with it, but the site ran for it, does not really generate money, its a forum for all to just chatter, so I don't see the reason to purchase something when you have to pay that much out of pocket.

I'd imagine if I ever decide to go with a VB forum I'd have to weight the intial costs versus long term costs against the income generated by the forum. If it makes more sense to buy a license instead of leasing one I'd go with that. Even if you have money to burn it just makes no sense to purchase something that doesn't fit your needs.

Depends what your plan is for your forums. If you hope that it lasts a while, under your ownership, it'd probably be best to go for an owned license.

My Mood:
Owned license everytime in my opinion and worth every penny of the cost involved.

Lease is a short measure and a money saving purchase and if your not sure if your forum or idea is going to work over time then a lease is ideas. I have always purchased the owned license due to the fact the cost can be swollowed up over the years and if one forum does not work then just change the domain and start a new forum.

The license will always be there when you need it.

Regards.
